Tom starts soccer

I gave myself a little holiday from the blog last weekend - Jules was worried it might be a permanent holiday but not to worry - my conscience wouldn't allow it!

Tom has started playing soccer which is all very exciting except that he very rarely actually participates! At his training sessions he tends to sit on the side and daydream whilst at the matches he sits on the side and resolutely refuses to relieve any of his exhausted team mates. Fortunately he made a bit of progress this Saturday and actually played for about 5 minutes in each half and I think he might have enjoyed himself. It is gorgeous watching all the 4 and 5 year old boys and girls running around the pitch chasing the ball, some of them are really quite good and you can easily identify their very eager fathers on the side line!

I have finally succumbed and got a nanny for 2 afternoons a week. She's a lovely girl called Rachel who is taking a year off in between school and Uni and lives around the corner. She has Tom on a Monday and takes him to swimming and she has both of them on a Wednesday and takes Tom to soccer training. Both the kids think she is fantastic and I've already noticed how much calmer the kids are on the days that Rachel has had them - why did it take me so long?!

The weather has been absolutely amazing the past couple of weeks and we've had lots of time down at the beach. On Friday I took Tom and Charlie, who currently has chicken pox, down to a secret beach where there was no danger of infecting other children and the 2 of them had a ball swimming, paddling on their boogie boards, playing on the rocks and rinsing off in the fresh water shower.
