End of year awards

Later today we'll be getting on a plane for the UK.  It's Friday 13th and I have a fear of flying.  I've packed sleeping tablets, ear plugs, rescue remedy and I'll be making the most of the in-flight drinks service.  I'm beginning to remind myself of my mother who used to knock back a couple of scotches and try to imagine she was somewhere else.

The school had it's end of year recognition assembly on Monday and both kids got awards which was very exciting.  Tom has worked so incredibly hard this year and he's done a lot of growing up so we were so delighted that his efforts were recognised.

Tess got two awards: one for getting High Distinction in an English exam and the other for being a diligent member of the Student Representative Council.

Please forgive me my proud mummy moment - what clever children!!

Straight after the assembly the school P&C had an EGM and I was elected in as Vice-President.  Emma Reid is the other Vice-President and we have a new President and Secretary so 2014 will be a big year of change for us and the school.  I have no idea what is expected of me but I'm excited to be getting more involved.  I have struggled, since giving up work 2 years ago, with being bored and questioning my general "usefulness" but there is no doubt that the children are thriving having me at home.  And as I get more involved with the school through co-ordinating Senior Band, helping at the Canteen, organising fund raising events and now sitting on the P&C Executive (it sounds grand but so isn't!!) I find I'm making lots of new friends, feeling more purposeful and developing a very strong sense of community which I missed out on due to my peripatetic childhood.  That's not to say that I wouldn't jump if the right job came along.......!!

Enough pontificating - we have a plane to catch!
