Custard with his christmas present
After Christmas we had booked to go camping at Corindi beach which is just north of Coffs Harbour. The holiday was ill-fated from the start: the weather forecast was not good, it took us 11 hours to get there instead of 7 and we had to put the tent up in torrential rain. On our first night Custard refused his food, unusual for him, but we put it down to too much time in the car although he's always been a big fan of road trips. The next day he also refused his food so the following morning we took him to the vet. The vet identified that his liver wasn't working properly and after lots of tests discovered lesions on his liver suggesting the presence of cancer. Custard went down hill very very rapidly and a day later we had to make the decision to put him down. The following day we packed up our tent and headed home.
Custard loved a road trip, Tess not so much

The only upside to the holiday was that Sheldon, Trudie, Ruby and Sienna Rivers were staying at a nearby hotel. We had one day of glorious weather which we spent with them at the beach and we were lucky that Tess and Tom were able to stay with them whilst Jules and I were at the vet making the heart-breaking decision to put Custard down.

We got Custard in July 2013 from labrador rescue and he very quickly became a much loved member of the family providing us with lots of entertainment through his regular thieving from the kitchen, foraging for dead animals up at the park and occasionally stubborn behaviour. He had the most amazing nature, especially with the kids, and bought us all a lot of joy. He will be sorely missed.
