Under the Sea

Jules has done well this week on the sailing front.  He has a number of work friends who have yachts that they sail up to Pittwater (a series of saltwater tributaries 45 mins north of our house) for the Christmas break and then they need help to sail them back down - it's a hard life but someone has to do it!  Jules helped one such friend on Thursday morning - it was 25 degrees at 6 in the morning and not a cloud in the sky - they had dolphins accompany them for part of the trip and saw one large shark!  The twilight on Friday which they did in Oka was extremely blustery and after 3 almost-man-overboards they retired from the race.  Sunday was one of the Summer series races and with their secret weapon, a guy who has sailed J24s professionally, they came first over the line and on handicap!

I've had a more kiddy focused weekend - what a surprise!  It started on Friday when the weather was glorious and the pool was 30 degrees.  Leanne and her 2 kids came round first thing in the morning and I was looking after Hunter too.  Leanne went to do her grocery shopping and at around 10.30 I threw all the kids in the pool.  Tom was amazing and was jumping in the pool and swimming without his bubble - I can't believe he can swim!  Leanne came back and our friends Angie and Oscar dropped around - Angie left Oscar and went off to do her shopping.  After about 3 hours in the pool I felt it was time for the kids to eat something so they had a huge lunch and then I went to do my grocery shopping whilst Leanne did yoga with them all.  In the evening it was still very warm so Lisa, Craig, Hunter and Fletcher came round for a swim and ended up staying for dinner.

Saturday was about 10 degrees cooler which was great because it gave us time to get ready for our camping trip next weekend, to do some gardening and a little bit of DIY.  In the evening the Reids came round and we had a lovely evening.  Ken and Emma are having their joint 40th at the end of February and as we were reminiscing at all the trips we had done before we had kids I remembered that earlier that week I had found all the videos that Ken had made of those trips.  We rudely interrupted the kids watching Mary Poppins and made them sit through 30 mins of their parents being idiots 10 years ago.  We were all horrified by how badly we have aged but it also made us vow to use the video cameras more often because photos are no substitute.

As I've already mentioned Jules was sailing on Sunday so I had Caroline and her 3 children round, James and Olivia and Lisa and her 2 kids came round too so once again it was full house.  The kids had a riot in the pool and then got parked in front of a DVD so that Caroline, Lisa and I could have a cup of tea in peace.  Once the sailing was finished everyone came round and we had a very rowdy dinner which was great fun.

In other news we have discovered the most beautiful (and huge!) blue-tongue lizard that lives in our back yard and Tom refers to him as his "pet".  We often see him from the deck as he sunbakes on the warm tiles below.  Tom and Tess have done a very special recording of Under the Sea for Kat, Robert and Sam - we hope you enjoy!  My blog will be late next week on account of the long weekend and us being away.
