This will just be a very quick blog post as we're going camping tomorrow morning and need to get ourselves organised so I don't have time to download pictures and think about what to write. Firstly I hope you all had a wonderful christmas - I'll write more about ours in my next post.
Secondly, Jules headed off on the Sydney-Hobart on Boxing Day morning. The weather was miserable and when I dropped him off at CYC all the participants were trying to keep as dry as possible in anticipation of how wet they were going to be later that day. We went up to our nearest headland to watch the start of the race and got a fantastic spot that allowed me to pitch my tripod. I've got some great photos but I'm attaching one taken by Ken (I haven't downloaded mine yet) in the interim. Jules had told me that St Jude's spinnaker had a red horizontal stripe on a white background and we were all very excited when we spotted it. I tried to get as many shots as possible although it was frequently hidden by other boats. When we got home Andy was playing with his camera zooming in on the photo when he said "doesn't St Jude have a blue hull?" - which it does. We zoomed in further on the boat we'd been following and realised it was the wrong boat!! Fortunately, St Jude which has TWO horizontal red stripes was quite close to the "wrong" boat so we've got some decent photos.
Anyway, at the time of writing this blog St Jude is winning on handicap which is truly amazing. We noticed early this morning that they'd taken a punt by heading out much further to sea than most of the fleet but it appears to be paying off. There's still a long way to go with a couple of boats on their heels but we're hoping they'll maintain the lead. We'll be out of contact for the next couple of days and by the time we get reception again the race will be over so please all keep your fingers crossed on Jules' behalf!
