Proof that Tess and Tom like each other
Given that it is highly likely that at some stage in their lives Tess and Tom will wonder how they could both be products of the same parents I thought I'd post this very sweet picture of the two of them asleep in Tess' bed.
I got a call from school on Wednesday lunch time - the moment they identify themselves as "from school" you know that you're going to have to drop everything because someone's injured. This time it was Tom who had managed to fall up (?) some concrete stairs and split open his chin. According to the 2 teachers who were with him he was extremely unfazed by the fall and the blood gushing out of his chin but was really upset about his cucumber sandwich that he'd dropped on the floor! A quick trip to the doctor and we got away with a couple of steri-strips in lieu of stitches - it's now Sunday and so far so good - a lucky escape.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned that Tess has finally started piano lessons. Her teacher is an English lady called Wendy and I think she's brilliant as does Tess luckily. We went along to meet her for the first time the week before last - it wasn't a lesson but a "get to know each other" so that we could decide whether Tess would want Wendy as a teacher and whether Wendy would want Tess as a pupil which I think is very sensible. Wendy was asking Tess whether she'd had any lessons previously which was obviously a no but Tess said "would you like me to play you something" and sat down at the piano and played one of the songs I'd been teaching her perfectly and without the music! We were both slightly gobsmacked but really, that's so Tess!!
Continuing on a musical theme I had 5 girls at our house for a couple of hours on Saturday morning practising for the talent quest which is a big annual event up at school. They have rather unfortunately chosen "5, 6, 7, 8" by Steps, a truly dreadful song, and the astute amongst you will wonder why they need 5 dancers. The answer is that they don't and so one girl is left dancing on her own in the middle of the stage for a large period of time. In typical 8 year old fashion, when we were talking about organising another practice the 4 girls who all have the safety of partners during the dance were very adamant that the girl dancing on her own needs a lot more practice!!!!
Our top deck is finally beautifully oiled and we were able to sort out the seating area in preparation for the Wakes-Millers coming round on Saturday night. We put up our hammock, a Byron Bay purchase, which is causing a lot of arguments - we should have bought 4. It was a glorious day and once the W-Ms arrived all the children (plus Bella) went for a swim in the pool - the first official swim of the season - hurrah!!!
An early start on Sunday morning for nippers which again Tom complained about but actually really enjoyed once he got into it. We then spent the rest of the day at the beach - I love this weather.
