City to Surf

The weather, which has been absolutely glorious, turned on Thursday to remind us that we're not out of winter yet!  Winds were gusting to 109km on the coast of Sydney and the Jamos and Stephen, who arrived on Friday morning, had very bumpy landings.  Stephen is here on business in Melbourne but scheduled a weekend with us first and the Jamos were up from Melbourne for the City to Surf, a 14km run/jog/walk from the City centre to Bondi beach which approximately 85,000 people participate in every year.

First however, we needed to properly celebrate Jules' birthday and he chose Cafe Sydney for dinner on Friday.  The boys took the fast ferry into the City, 3.5m swells meant us girls chose to travel by taxi, and we had a fantastic evening with excellent food, wine and company.  After dinner the boys decided the night was still young (unlike them - hee hee!) and there were some very sore heads the next morning.  We reconvened on Saturday evening for a pre-City to Surf dinner round at the Mennies where the boys agreed that Guiness was an excellent conditioning tonic.

We woke on Sunday to a cold, grey and windy day and several of our party had second thoughts about doing the race but their logistical planning worked like a dream and they were all in place for their various start times.  The race was a triumph with times as follows: Michael 67 mins, Jules 75 mins, Stephen 85 mins and first-timers Julia and LIsa achieving personal bests.  Everyone took advantage of the KPMG marquee at the end of the race and admired their medals.

This week Tess was invited to join the school dance troupe.  The dance troupe has been incredibly successful this year and has got through to a state-wide competition.  However there are 2 girls who won't be available for the comp and they've been looking for substitutes.  Tess was delighted to be asked and I suspect there will be lots of leaping, pirouetting and stressing in our house for the next 6 weeks whilst she learns her part!!
