The weather has been amazing - much like it used to be when we first lived in Australia. The grass is browning, a common sight first thing in the morning or last thing at night is people watering their gardens and our pool needed topping up which only usually happens towards the end of summer. Sadly this also means bush fires. We got caught in one during our holiday and passed another one on the road to Byron. This week the Blue Mountains suffered dreadful bush fires with over 200 houses lost and they're still blazing with soaring temperatures and gale force winds.
Another consequence of the strong winds is that baby possums keep falling out of their nests. We found a second one this week, this one just a couple of days old, and I put him in a cardboard box and called WIRES (NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service) who said they'd find a home for it and call me back. Sadly it died before we were able to relocate him and given it's age probably wouldn't have made it anyway.
The weekend was a busy one with lots of surfing, a couple of sleepovers, some pool maintenance and a relaxed bbq dinner.
