The weekend of Tess

It's been all about Tess this weekend with her birthday party on Saturday followed by a sleepover with her 3 besties, going to the Mall to choose some birthday presents and then seeing Grease at the theatre.  Oh, and I mustn't forget that she got Man of the Match at Touch Rugby on Friday night.  Meanwhile Tom was getting into fights with scary tattooed mums and children and asking them not to swear at him whilst at a party at Luna Park!

Afternoon tea for the monkeys

Tess chose to have a rock climbing party which was brilliant because she could invite lots of friends and they all got to burn off energy - a very good thing as not many of them are the "sit down and do some quiet craft" type.  In fact they all closely resembled monkeys not only whilst scaling steep walls with apparent ease but also whilst messing around during afternoon tea.  I was pretty glad it wasn't held at our house!

After the party we came home to open her group present which was a very clever "clue" box. Tess had to answer 5 clues - each answer gave her a letter and once she had all 5 she had to unscramble the word to open the box.  I got stuck on the first clue: "what is the question we ask the most" and had a moment of panic where I thought I might need to phone the clever mum who put the box together and ask for some additional hints.  Fortunately I finally got the answer ("Y") and I was able to guide Tess through to the opening of the box which revealed a lovely amount of cash for her to spend as she felt fit.
4 besties: Jessie, Tess, Sarah Olivia

Tess' best friends, Olivia, Sarah and Jessie, came for a sleepover and we ate pizza and watched Grease in preparation for the following afternoon.  In the morning there was huge drama when the girls saw Custard with what they thought was a rat in his mouth.  It was actually a baby possum so the general hysteria turned from disgust at the idea of a rat to disgust at the idea of Custard hurting a possum.  Jules managed to "save" the possum and he was put in a cardboard box safely up in the tree house.

Tess with Peanut

Before going to the theatre Tess and I headed to the Mall to spend some of her birthday money.  She pooled what she received with her pocket money and bought herself an ipad mini.  I have mixed feelings about that but so many of her friends have them now it's hard to say no - particularly when she's buying it with her own money.  The other present she redeemed was a Build-a-Bear voucher given to her by Lisa.  I was very scared walking into the shop and being confronted with all these dreadful stuffed toys and even more dreadful outfits and accessories but I think we got off pretty lightly with "Peanut" and his white t-shirt and denim shorts for during the day and cute pyjamas for nighttime.  He even has his own birth certificate!

Grease was great fun.  The main parts were a little weak and the acting was generally dreadful but the singing and dancing was fantastic and ultimately that's what it's all about.  The girls (and mums) sang the whole way home.
