Farm, Field Day and Four-Wheel Driving

We spent 5 days at the farm this week with the Mennies and Michael and Ryan who flew up from Melbourne for a boys weekend.  The Mennies were delayed in leaving on Tuesday morning because Floyd had spent Monday night in hospital as he'd had two seizures.  Thank goodness he's ok.

I bought them all animal beanies - a huge hit

Wednesday was our traditional provisioning day which involves lunch at the Globe Hotel in Rylstone followed by grocery shopping at the IGA in Kandos.  There was also lots of motorbike and quad bike riding back at the farm.

Ever seen a polar bear driving a Rav?

On Thursday Jules persuaded us to try a nearby four-wheel drive trail.  We got hopelessly lost as we didn't have a particularly good map but we ended up doing a fantastic route which essentially followed the River Turon in a north-westerly direction from Capertee.  It involved a couple of creek crossings and some steep hills and most importantly the children loved it which bodes well for Cape York.

It was the annual Mudgee Field Day on Friday which was a brilliant event.  There were lots of baby animals that we could cuddle and we nearly came home with a piglet, a chicken and a puppy!

Friday night was the worst night we have ever had at the farm.  Darcy started vomiting at about 11pm, Tom joined her at 3am, Tess at 4am and Lisa at 5am.  We got to a stage where almost every bed was unusable as spare sheets aren't something we have up at the farm and we turned the sitting room into a sickbay with makeshift beds on the floor in front of the fire.  Fortunately the rest of us were ok and as Jules came up separately in the Rav I was able to pack Tess and Tom into the car and head home early on Saturday morning.  They both slept for almost the entire journey and were still not feeling 100% today.

With the children not totally well we had a quiet day on Sunday but managed a sushi lunch down in Manly with Michael and Ryan before they flew back to Melbourne.
