Saturday sport was a bit of a trial with a sore head but Tess and I were excited because it was the last netball game for the season. On Saturday afternoon Jules took Steve, Michael, Tess, Tom, Maggie and Ryan on Oka for a little sail round to the marina where she needs to get some repairs. Julia and I had a spare couple of hours so we went for lunch in Manly and stuffed ourselves full of burgers and chips which helped the headaches. In the evening we headed round to the Mennies where Michael did a masterclass in how to make pizza in Craig's new pizza oven.

It was the City to Surf on Sunday morning but Michael was the only one participating this year so the rest of us headed down to Clontarf with the mirror dinghy. Everyone had so much fun with the kids taking it in turns to sail and the adults sitting on the beach in the sun.

In Tom's surf lesson on Wednesday the surf was pretty big so the instructors decided to take the kids round to Butterbox. This is an off-shore break which has a beautiful left-hander when the surf is big. The kids had to climb down a cliff, walk along the beach and then paddle out to sea to reach it. As an observer I had to climb to the top of Long Reef Headland and look down. I was lucky that I'd brought my telephoto zoom lens with me. Whilst the kids were surfing I was treated to an amazing display by a whale just a bit further out from them. The kids were so excited when they got back and will be talking up that experience for some time to come.
