Start of the winter sports season

The kids were still on holiday this week and we were exceptionally lucky with amazing weather which saw us down at the beach every day.  Tom has a couple of friends who are beginning to get into surfing and it's so brilliant for him to finally have friends of his own age to surf with.  Poor Tess doesn't find it quite so much fun but we played lots of beach tennis together and she loves boogie boarding and wave jumping.

Tess had soccer training on Thursday evening and Tom was there geared up for his rugby training so he helped out by playing in goal.  Tess was mortified but the coach was pleased to have some help and Tom has always loved playing in goal.

Jules had his first surf patrol on Sunday morning.  Apparently it was fairly uneventful with no rescues needed and just a little whistle blowing to get the tourists to swim in between the flags where it's safe.

Whilst he was on surf patrol I ran between Tess' first soccer match and Tom's first rugby match which thank goodness were on fields only 5 minutes apart.

Tom came off his skateboard on Friday and took a nasty tumble.  Since then his left wrist has been a bit swollen and he has mentioned it hurting.  I bandaged it up for rugby but it was clearly hurting as he ran holding it for support.  I don't have a good track record with potentially fractured limbs.  It took me 2 weeks to finally take Tess to the doctor and radiologist to discover that she had a fractured finger.  That was just before the school holidays and she made the most of the fracture by convincing the physiotherapist to say that she couldn't practice either the clarinet or piano during the holidays.  Funnily enough it didn't stop her from boogie boarding, skate boarding, playing tennis, playing netball......... I've taken the unusual step of making a doctors appointment for Tom rather than waiting 2 weeks to "see what happens"!
