Thank goodness we were able to go to Byron where we spent a fantastic week with the Rivers. The weather was excellent for the first 4 days so we spent lots of time at the beach. Trudie and I had been very organised and booked in a number of restaurants a couple of months ago and we chose very well based on lots of different recommendations. Our 4 kids are brilliant together and when the weather started to turn they got very serious with all their game playing - Monopoly, Ligretto, Sushi Go, Biddings, The Very Nasty Horse Game, Pub Trivia, Phase 10 and Yahtzee all got a serious work out.
Dinner on our first night was at The Treehouse:
Ruby made us get up one morning at 5.15 so that we could watch the sunrise from the lighthouse at Cape Byron:
Top Shop did amazing breakfasts so the girls headed there after the sunrise whilst the boys surfed. Tom and Sisi spent a happy hour collecting pipis (mussel type things) at the beach and Tom insisted that I cook them up for him for lunch the following day. These are clearly the most fashionable pjs around - the girls all received them for Christmas. The kids can occasionally be persuaded to help around the house!
This beach set up was just across the road from our house on Belongil Beach:
Tess surfed too! Tom helped push her onto waves and she did really well.
Tom and Siri playing beach tennis. True story: when Jules and Sheldon were playing the ball fell into a crab hole and got lost. We tried digging out the crab hole to find it but it went too deep!
Our friends Lauren and Scott Still were staying down the road in Yamba so they came up for some beach time and an adult lunch at Harvest. We used the 17 year olds as Uber drivers - so handy!
We had a seriously good Japanese meal at O Sushi which sadly I don't have any photos of. We also had a great tapas type meal at The Mez Club - great atmosphere.

When the weather turned we took to the shops and played games:
