What a week

I finished up at Sedgwick last week. I was sad to leave because I've made some good friends and I was very touched by all the lovely messages I received - I feel like I made a difference in the 2 years I was there and it's certainly given me back some confidence. I'm moving to a company called Sun Doctors who own 31 skin cancer clinics and 2 histopathology labs. They are a subsidiary of Australian Clinical Labs, an ASX listed company with plenty going on. I'm very excited about being back in the healthcare sector again and I'm looking forward to doing a job that I've chosen rather than fallen into.

I had the week off and it ended up being quite a week. I was running around like a headless chicken getting ready for Christmas (starting a new job 2 weeks prior to christmas is not ideal!), Tess had a tonsillectomy, I was due to have a BCC on my forehead removed (the irony considering my new job!) and Tom had his driving test.

The tonsillectomy went as well as could be expected and Tess was back home the same day although in a lot of pain and not really able to eat - it was her first experience of being in hospital so all a bit overwhelming.

I went to the plastic surgeon who basically said he didn't recommend removing the BCC surgically because it would involve a skin flap and possibly a scalp rotation!!! He recommended I use Efudix instead which is a cream I've used in the past and really not liked but it certainly sounds better than a scalp rotation!

I was very very nervous for Tom as passing his driving test was really important to him - although he's been riding the scooter which gives him huge freedom he can't transport his surfboard so having a car for the summer holidays was a big deal. Luckily he passed - such a relief!

Jules and I were down in Manly on Saturday morning when we received a call from Tom in a bit of a panic telling us that Tess was bleeding from her mouth quite considerably. We dashed home and I immediately took her to hospital where there was no waiting in emergency - she was rushed through and being operated on within an hour of arriving. Apparently bleeding like that can happen in 5% of cases so she was really unlucky. She ended up spending the night in hospital but is now back home and recovering well.

Tom, Harry, Tia and Nina finally set off for the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expedition. The lucky things are white water kayaking in the Snowy Mountains for 5 days. They were all typically disorganised but made it in the end. Tom has taken his fishing rod, some flies (there are trout in the snowy river) and his bush tucker book. The girls bought extra food for him just in case...

Preparing snacks!
