We have been buffeted all week with gale force winds and quite a lot of rain. Every morning I go walking at the oval near our house which is on top of some cliffs looking out to the harbour entrance and I've been staying very far away from the edge for fear of doing a Mary Poppins! However, we can't complain because the wind is coming down from the north and so is incredibly warm - we've had temperatures in the low 20s which is very mild for this time of year.
Jules had his first race for the season on St Jude, the boat he is doing the Sydney-Hobart on. It was a harbour race which Jules always enjoys and the sky was clear blue all day. I think they did quite well and Jules was in charge of the bow which was a new position for him and the one he'll be doing during the Sydney-Hobart so it was good to get some practice.
Meanwhile, the Mennies and I took the 4 kids to the Dinosaur Museum which was great fun and there was a special Mammouth exhibition on which the kids really enjoyed. Poor Tom claims to love dinosaurs but in fact is terrified of them and he insisted on holding my hand for most of the exhibition. We made some progress though and he managed to watch twice a film that had him terrified last time (it involves a T-Rex eating a smaller dinosaur). As always we were left with the impression that however good the exhibition the real highlight is morning tea in the cafe! The children had a lovely time playing in the afternoon doing craft and science experiments - Tess was sent him with a reader about what floats so we decided to see for ourselves and gathered all the items together along with a big bowl of water and we tried all the different objects as Tess and Olivia read us the book. I've attached a craft picture that Tess and Jules did of a "wild thing" which I think is truly excellent although we're hesitant to put it on her wall in case it gives her and Tom nightmares!
