I am typing this on my new iPhone whilst sitting in the sun with the children playing happily in the playground! I had been waiting very patiently for the new 3GS and doing my research to make sure I could justify getting one when 2 weeks before the launch of the new phone my old phone (which I'd had for over 4 years) conveniently broke!! I am trying not to play with it too much as Jules is very jealous and is wondering whether he can throw his phone in the sea and get a new one.
On to the main news story of the week which is that Jules got his eyes lasered on Friday to correct his eyesight and now has 20:20 vision. The procedure itself sounded quite hideous - you are conscious throughout, can smell the burning and can see what looks like a dentist's pick being manipulated in your eye - however Jules is absolutely thrilled with the outcome. He is amazed by how much he can now see and says his vision is even better than it was with contacts/glasses. He has to wear some rather attractive Stevie Wonder glasses at night for the next couple of days to stop him rubbing his eyes in his sleep but then that's it.
We had a "recuperating" weekend because of the eye surgery and managed to get quite a lot done around the house. Jules rigged up a very dangerous looking structure so that we could (finally) mount a mirror on the big bare wall in our sitting room and we decorated Tom's room with beautiful wall decals (surely one of the most fabulous inventions) and put up curtains which has completely transformed his room - it now looks so cozy and inviting which it certainly never did before. Unfortunately he doesn't want to move out of Tess' room so I'm not really sure why we bothered but he'll hopefully move at some stage!
On Saturday we took the kids for a lovely bush walk which took about an hour and the kids loved - running most of the way and trying to jump in as many muddy puddles as possible. We got back to the car just as the heavens opened! On Sunday we took them bike riding in Manly as it was a gorgeous day - we adjusted their bikes so they're both at a better height and found it much easier to pedal - Tom wants a bigger bike because he just can't keep up with Tess as his wheels are half the size! We stopped half way for pancakes to build up their strength - yum!
