Boys at the farm

The boys had a weekend away at the farm, as Tess said, "driving the quads and being idiots" - I wonder who she got that from?! They couldn't have chosen a finer weekend with temperatures in the mid-twenties all weekend. As well as zooming around on motorbikes they climbed a very steep hill near the farmhouse and took some amazing photos of the surroundings. I particularly love this one which shows how the farmhouse is in the middle of nowhere - all the land you can see belongs to the farm.

On Friday Tom and I went down to Clontarf to play in the sea with Leanne and Alayne. The children had a wonderful time but Tom's eczema was really hurting him and he asked to go home and have a bath. Isabelle and Charlie decided that a warm bath was a much better option than the freezing cold sea so came back with us. They were in there for about half and hour and had a lovely time - as did we drinking tea and chatting - we must do it more often!

Lisa and I shared the pain of the four children over the weekend - doing an activity all together and then taking it in turns to have all four of them whilst the other had a break which works very well for us. Tess had a sleepover on Friday night at her friend Yin-Yin's house which I was pretty sure was her first one. I was woken at 9.40 (yes, sad but I was already in bed and asleep on a Friday night!) by Yin-Yin's parents mortified that Tess was crying and wanted to come home - she was fine by the time she got home and we agreed that we'd try again some other time.

Saturday and Sunday were a whirl of kid's activities interspersed with a lot of housework (the downside of being away the weekend before). A highlight was Sunday morning when Lisa, Emma and I went out for breakfast at a cafe that looks onto a beach - the children played beautifully on the beach and in the water whilst we had a relatively civilised breakfast. Tess and Olivia went on to a birthday party after breakfast so Lisa and I treated the 3 boys to an ice cream which Tom finished in record time - obviously terrified his mother would steal it if he took too long!

The garden is very nearly ready and I've been spending a lot of time watering the new turf which is not fairing so well with the beautiful weather. I believe the gardeners plan to finish tomorrow so we'll do an unveiling on the blog next weekend.
