Special weekend guest

It was a sad week for us as we said goodbye to Rae who is back home after 2 months in the Antipodes. However, the arrival of a very special person to spend the weekend with us helped lift our mood. Due to a Canberra jaunt by his owners, Floyd came to stay with us. The children were incredibly excited arguing about whose bed Floyd was going to sleep on, who was going to feed him and hold his lead on his walks. We had a bit of a panic on Friday afternoon when after a couple of hours of Tom playing with Floyd, hugging him, lying on his dog bed, Tom's eyes went all puffy and gelatinous just like they do when he's near a cat. Out came the anti-histamines and strong words with Tom to try and keep a bit of distance between him and Floyd and luckily he was fine for the rest of the weekend.

It was the last Friday twilight of the season and Jules had a great crew with Emma, Debs, John and Andrew. That meant that I had a house full with Leanne and Kate and respective children. The kids all had a ball playing with Floyd, gobbling down their food and then watching a movie whilst we ate ours.

We kept the weekend free to spend as much time with Floyd as possible and to get ready for our trip to Fiji - we leave next Saturday at 5am after a School Trivia night on the Friday which is often late and drunken - oh dear! The weather was truly amazing - pretending we were still in the middle of summer rather than the beginning of autumn. The kids had their last swim in our pool for the season - it's a nippy 24 degrees now so I kept a safe distance.

On Sunday Tom had his first soccer practice with his team. It was very cute watching them all chase the ball with no idea of actually passing it to each other. Tom was fine as long as he was kicking the ball - when he wasn't he sat down and sulked. Well, it's important to start them early!!
