We all went on weekends away this weekend - Jules, Rae, Tess and Tom on one weekend and me, Alayne, Leanne and Angie on another - who do you think had the most relaxing time?!
The girls and I went down to Berry and stayed in a very contemporary house with a self-composting toilet - it is a very bizarre sensation going to the toilet and not having to flush at the end. We arrived at the house to be confronted by 3 massive huntsmen spiders, two of which were mating. Fortunately Leanne decided that as the only Australian amongst us she needed to take care of them. We searched high and low for insect spray but being an ecologically friendly house there wasn't any so we found a net instead. She got rid of the mating pair but whilst trying to throw them off the deck one of them started climbing up the handle of the net so Leanne dropped the net into the grass below. Leanne went to get the net so that we could get rid of the third spider but whilst recovering her nerve she felt something moving on her leg which she thought might be a spider leg but turned out to be a leech. Fortunately I found some salt which we threw on her leg and the leech fell off - we threw him down the toilet - that'll teach him. We had all brought projects with us for our weekend - we're an industrious bunch and the thought of a weekend just relaxing was too much for us. On Saturday we woke up and headed into Berry for breakfast at around 10.30. We got back to our house at 5.30 totally shopped out - so much for the projects! We were able to stay in the house until 2pm on Sunday so luckily that gave us some time to be industrious - Leanne did her wedding photo album (she got married 4.5 years ago), Alayne made a cushion for her daughter Isabelle, I worked on my 2009 digital photo album and Angie made oatmeal, cranberry and chocolate chip cookies - yum!!
Over to Jules now for a description of their weekend - I think we'll be going back there!
Well what can I say? No gigantic spiders, no leaches, proper toilets and no shopping...instead a 1,000 acre farm on top of an escarpment overlooking the Capertee valley (the widest, but not the deepest, enclosed canyon in the world). A wood fire, a big deck, a cold fridge and views wow what views. Two farm kids a bit older than Tess and Tom who played with them and their farm yard friends all weekend from dawn to dusk. The farm yard friends being a sheep and two lambs, three working dogs (Fred, Flip & Dusky), a baby goat (Bob), a bunch of ducks and chooks (who I suspect made less noise than the girls on their weekend away but I'm sure sounded remarkably similar). I could go on but it would be annoying - the photos say it all (the bottom 3 that is). Ps Craig and Lisa - it still doesn't beat Burching Park!
