Jules had a full crew for the twilight with Craig, Andrew, Andrew's brother and Claire on-board. It was a windy evening and there were apparently a few near misses much to everyone's excitement. Andrew, Andrew's brother and Marianne stayed overnight and we woke to amazing Sydney weather so after a lazy breakfast we all headed down to Little Manly for some beach fun. We took the surf board and Tess and Marianne took turns trying to stand up (with an adult holding the board completely still and flat!) whilst Tom showed no interest at all. He much preferred skimming the shoreline waves with his boogie board and knocking over toddlers in the process! We headed back home for lunch with a glass of wine (a sure way of making me feel like I'm on holiday), a siesta and then a swim in the pool where we had great fun creating a human whirlpool.
On Sunday we celebrated Darcy's birthday - Lisa had been out with us on the Saturday night, got home close to midnight and spent the next 2 hours icing cupcakes as it had been too warm during the day! There were 50 people in total and you wouldn't have realised which just highlights how amazing their house is for entertaining. The kids swam for hours, jumped out of the pool for a sausage sarnie and to sing happy birthday and then got back into the pool again!
A recently discovered advantage of having children who are getting older is that we now regularly get decent lie-ins on the weekend especially as they are currently allowed to watch television because it's the school holidays. In fact on Friday Tess had a play date organised for 9.30am and at 8.30 she came into my room and in a very sweet voice said "Mummy, I really think you ought to get up now". At this rate it won't be long before I'm saying those words to her - hopefully with an equally sweet voice!!!

Lenka, I've stumbled across your blog by some circuitous route that I can't even begin to remember! You and Jules haven't changed a bit - it's lovely to read about what you're doing these days and see pictures of your children. Tess looks JUST like you!
This post made me laugh because G and I are also relishing the lie-ins that come with older children, and in fact Cam, at 11, is suddenly morphing into one of those sleepy teens that I could not even contemplate when he was a baby.
I too have a blog - should be linked onto my profile - where you can catch up with what I've been up to.
Nancy xx
