Another scorcher!
The weather has got progressively warmer this week ending with temperatures in the mid 30s today. Tom had his first class playdate down at Clontarf on Friday afternoon and the afternoon could not have been more beautiful. I love Friday afternoons down at Clontarf because, if the weather is good, half the school ends up down there so there is always someone to play with for the kids and someone to talk to for the mums. The kids had a ball playing in the sea and it was lovely to see Tom with all his new friends. There's one little boy in particular, Jesse, whom Tom has spoken about since day one and he is a gorgeous cheeky chap which I think explains why the 2 of them get on so well.
Rob, Claire and her sister went sailing with Jules on Friday evening coming a very respectable 3rd and everyone, including Claire's parents ended up at our house for dinner. In Sydney there's a top patissier called Andriano Zumbo who was made famous by Masterchef and who has recently opened a hole-in-the-wall in Manly which has absolutely no advertising but regularly has queues down the street. Claire's parents very kindly stopped in there and bought a variety of desserts for us to try for dinner - they were spectacular both to look at and to eat!
Since we spotted the possum outside the house as Rob, Claire et al were leaving last weekend, the kids have been obsessed with possum watching and have started trying to feed them - Tom is adamant he's going to pat a possum although I've told him he's more likely to get his finger bitten! They put cherry tomatoes and grapes in the trees outside our house and then do a stake out on the little green stools for all of about 2 minutes. Not surprisingly they haven't yet seen a possum taking the food although it's always gone in the morning.
For years I have wanted to buy a label maker but have held off, partly because they are quite expensive, but also because I was concerned that it would feed my excessive organisational tendencies. Tom's teacher asked for a couple of mums to go into class to make labels for the kids headphones and I decided that this was the excuse I needed to finally buy one. I was in Woolworths and found one on special so I snapped it up. As the cashier was scanning my shopping I noticed that the label maker came up at the non-discounted price which I commented on so she called over her manager who told me that Woolworth's have a price scan policy where you get the item for free if it scans at the incorrect price - what a result!
Although I now have Friday's to myself I have struggled doing anything other than chores so this Friday, straight after dropping the kids at school, I went to a nail bar for a pedicure - I think only my 2nd ever! These new nail bars are very business-like and I felt a little out of my depth especially when asked what "shape" I wanted - uh, that would be toe-nail shape??!! However, the result was spectacular and I think I will be making it a regular feature of my Fridays.
In a very spontaneous arrangement the Jamos and us ended up at Manly Pavilion for dinner on Saturday night with the kids all babysat by Jasmyn. It's hard to say who had a better time but I think we might have won as not only did we not have to do dinner and bedtime for the kids due to our booking being for 6pm but we also got to enjoy the stunning views over the harbour as the sun set and the navigational lights (Jules' favourite??!!) once it was dark.
