Frogs and snakes at Burching Park

The sick bug that Tess had last week got a really good grip on me and is still here which is why this blog posting is late.  I struggled through work last week but we had a long standing arrangement to go to the farm and because it was the Jamo's last weekend at the farm whilst still living in Sydney I wasn't prepared to miss it. We headed off on Thursday afternoon and met the Jamos in Kandos where we stayed the night at Hotel del Cemento (Kandos is a big cement making town).  It was surprisingly comfortable and I slept particularly well after following my Lemsip Max with a brandy chaser!

We headed into Mudgee to do the weekend food shop (Julia had ordered our meat requirements in advance from a recommended butcher!) which was very civilised as none of us needed to bring the entire contents of our pantry.  We are constantly seeking to leave the farm with a minimum of leftovers and we agreed that this weekend was our best ever attempt.  We then decided a little wine tasting was in order and we ended up at Bob Oatley's vineyard which had a very nice cafe where we drank rose whilst the kids rolled down a nearby hill.

I was really struggling with my virus so did very little all weekend.  Fortunately the kids are experts at entertaining themselves and there's always an adult or 2 willing to take them on a bush walk around the farm.  On one of the bushwalks the kids discovered loads of frogs in one of the dams (there were quite a few baby frogs in the house, including one that jumped out of Lisa's wash bag!) and by another of the dams they saw 2 large red bellied black snakes (one of Australia's most venomous snakes) which is the first time we've seen any dangerous animals at the farm - Gary Goanna isn't doing his job properly!  We always need a small maintenance project whilst we're up there and this time Craig and Michael decided to clean out the gutters.  It was, as always, a fantastic weekend.
