Tom had another fantastic soccer game this weekend and scored 2 goals. This feat was further magnified in his eyes by the fact that the Rumbolds were unexpectedly there to witness his triumph. Unfortunately he lacks modesty and after each of the goals was so busy explaining to the other team how many goals he's scored this season that he missed the kick off!
It was the Queen's birthday weekend and although we had originally planned to go away we were both too disorganised to arrange anything so ended up having a weekend at home with lots of guests. John Rumbold was at the AFL on Saturday night in Manly so I persuaded Leanne and the boys to spend the evening with us. Our kids were so excited that they were coming and the 7 of us had a very fun dinner together - all the kids are at such fantastic ages and I love hanging out with them. Tess had made dessert, raspberry bavarois, which was greatly appreciated by all.
The weather was fairly dreadful all weekend but that didn't stop us heading into the City with the Rumboladas for Yum Cha (dim sum in English) in Chinatown followed by a tour around the Maritime Museum. The outing highlighted to me that we don't spend enough time in the City where there is always something going on. I remember when we arrived in Sydney 11 years ago the City was empty during the weekends but the town planners have worked hard to change that aided by the Olympics and further extensive development of Darling Harbour and the environs.

In the evening the Diggins came round for dinner where we laughed a lot and we all (including the children) eventually fell into bed at about 11.30pm. On our way into Chinatown that morning we had been talking about Chinese zodiac signs - Tess had first thought that Tom was born in the year of the Dog but a google search showed that he was actually born in the year of the Rooster. Tess agreed that although Tom does a fantastic dog impression he is more like a Rooster because he wakes up every morning at about 5.30, when it's still dark, and makes a lot of noise to the annoyance of everyone around him!!
It was still raining on Sunday but fortified by fresh carrot, apple and ginger juice for breakfast we headed out on a bush walk where we collected lots of shells to make special presents for people - I shall say no more! In the afternoon Robert came round and I discovered that irrespective of all the fancy dishes I try to prepare for the family, the one meal that guarantees spotlessly clean plates is bangers, mash, peas and gravy - why am I surprised?!
