It's been the wettest July in 50 years in Sydney. Our gutters have been in need of replacement for quite some time and we particularly notice it when we have to pass through a waterfall to get to our front door!
Fortunately the rain held off on Saturday night for a trip to watch the rugby, Australia v South Africa, with the Rumbolds. We were all prepared for a very cold night with ski jackets, layers upon layers of clothing, beanies, gloves, hot thermoses of peppermint tea (I was channeling my inner Leanne) but we were all pleasantly surprised by temperatures sticking to a (relatively) balmy 9 degrees. The kids loved the rugby - they loved the massive crowd (52,000 people), the bright lights, the singing and especially the mexican waves and they were torn between watching the rugby on the pitch, on the big screen or watching the spectators who they found almost more interesting than the rugby. On the way home Tess said "I loved the rugby I just wasn't sure which bits I was supposed to cheer at"!!
Due to the low hovering over Sydney and producing all the rain the surf is huge at the moment and we spent both Saturday and Sunday down in Manly watching the surfers, sheltering from the rain and, when the sun was shining, playing on the sand. Tom simply can't understand why I haven't yet bought him a winter wet suit so that he can go surfing and was doing a good impression of being a surfer on the sand.
