I wouldn't call Tom a particularly determined person when it comes to learning new things.  On Saturday morning he cried most of the way to Tania Park because he couldn't do the tricks he wanted to on his skateboard and he didn't like being told that it takes years of practice to acquire such skills.  However, on Saturday afternoon he showed us that he is capable of a steely determination when it comes to surfing.  He loves surfing and talks about it a lot although he has not had very much experience.  On Saturday he took his surfboard and off he went - he was constantly dumped by waves, he frequently missed the crest of a wave, he wasn't able to stand up, he got unceremoniously dumped off his board on several occasions, he no doubt swallowed gallons of water and yet not one word of complaint or frustration passed his lips.  This is clearly HIS THING and as such we are going to encourage it as much as possible.

Davis Marina is undergoing a refurb and we went down to see Oka literally floating in mid-air.  Unfortunately it means no sailing for Jules at the moment but the end result will be worth it.
