A morning sail

Another busy week of school, dance, skateboarding, clarinet, guitar and piano - imagine how exhausting it will be when we add soccer, rugby and netball!

I had a funny exchange with Tom the other day - I think I'd given him a chocolate or something similar.
T: You're really nice actually
L: Does that come as a surprise to you Tom?
T: Yes

Tom took this photo - I rather like it
It was a glorious weekend so we spent lots of time down at the beach - no photos as we were all in the water it was so warm.  On Sunday morning it was slightly overcast so we decided to take the kids out on Oka.  We'd been meaning to get them out a lot more this summer but with the dreadful weather we haven't had the opportunity.  Although it was overcast it was very warm, there was a gentle breeze and very little swell so perfect conditions.  Tess was very handy attaching the jib to the jib halyard and Tom tried his hand at helming.  He was very good except for his unfortunate habit of not paying any attention and not looking in the direction in which we were going!

In the afternoon we walked/skate boarded into Manly and back again.  Tess is doing really well building up her confidence and working on her balance.  Tom is amazing - he's actually very very cautious in his classes which drives his instructors nuts as they know he'd be fine going down the ramps etc but potentially the 4 stitches in his eyebrow had a positive effect in that regard.  There are a number of steep hills on the walk into Manly and he zoomed down them confidently steering round obstacles (ie people) with the exception of one "stupid dog" who didn't understand what Tom was doing so Tom was forced to jump off his board.  There was a lot of muttering under his breath about that one.  At the top of the stairs next to Manly Pavilion there's a memorial to Sir Edmund Barton - I asked the kids if he knew who he was - to give them a clue I said he was very important and the first person to do an important job.  So Tom goes "was he the first skateboarder?".  Poor old Ed will be spinning in his grave.

Another successful family concert this evening with the exception of my performance so I really need to go and practice.....
