Sk8boarding Groms

Tom on his new skateboard

The kids (and I guess I really mean Tom) have decided they are skateboarders.  They do a weekly class for an hour where they are taught by 18 year old skateboarding dudes.  Earlier this year Tom bought himself a mini skateboarder with his birthday/christmas money which is brilliant but not at all suitable for learning to skateboard on.  We had promised him a new board last weekend but got fed up with shouting boy so he didn't get one.  As a result he has been a delight this week - speaking very politely, minding his p's and q's and laying the table for dinner without being asked!!!!!  So after his haircut on Saturday morning Jules took him to the skateboarding shop on the northern beaches and bought him a very cool board. It's been attached to him ever since.

I forgot to mention last week that we have started a weekly family concert.  Now that we're all learning various instruments (Tess: piano, clarinet; Tom: guitar, piano; Lenka: piano; Jules: guitar) we thought it would be fun to share our progress with each other.  Actually that's not true - my piano teacher told me I have to learn to play in front of other people and so I'm starting with the family!  However, the concert was fantastic fun, the kids loved playing in front of us and we all enjoyed singing along to Tom's guitar playing.  Move over the Von Trapps!!
Picnic at Forty-Baskets
After all the miserable weather we've had recently we've been thoroughly spoilt the past 4 days with glorious sunshine.  The Wakes-Millers came over for a swim and dinner on Saturday evening and on Sunday we planned a trip out on the speed boat with the Mennies.  Unfortunately we had a technical hitch with the trailer and so ended up down at Forty-Baskets beach which Tom was delighted with because he was able to bring his skateboard and practice on some of the sloping foot paths.  Without meaning to we ended up spending the whole day down there and finished off in our local favourite Thai restaurant - I'm sitting here with that sun-kissed holiday feeling!

The 2 Noongs
PS "Noong" is fairly common Aussie slang and we use it frequently to describe Tom and Hunter who don't always think through what they're doing (i.e they mostly behave like idiots!).  I've never really thought about where the word comes from or what it means but a quick google search taught me that it stands for "Not one of nature's gentlemen".  Sorry Tom.
