Camping at Freeman's Beach

Kids dinner at Freeman's Beach campsite

It was our fourth weekend away in a row and Jules and I were beginning to wish we hadn't booked this camping date but after a planning session with Kate and Trudie I was fired up and ready to go!  We went to Freeman's Beach on the Central Coast (about 1.5 hours drive north of Sydney).  The campsite had flushing toilets, cold showers and lots of barbecue facilities but not very much shade and we spent most of the 30+ degree weekend wishing one of us had a gazebo!  Jules and I put our tent up in record time and without any argument which I think must mean we've reached some kind of milestone in our relationship.

The Mums boogie boarding at Frazer Beach

By 9am on Saturday it was 32 degrees at our campsite so we headed to nearby Frazer Beach which had much gentler surf than Freemans.  After the kids had showed off their boogie boarding skills us mums decided it was our turn and we had a riot - I think even Tom was marginally impressed.  It was too hot to head back to the campsite for lunch so we ended up at The Catho Pub, a very Australian pub with a live band and surprisingly good food.  To clear our heads after lunch we headed to the beach at Catherine Hill Bay where the kids did more boogie boarding and exploring.  There was a wedding at the surf club above the beach with a good live band and I was very happy reading a magazine and enjoying the music.

Back in Sydney the kids hit the pool, which is a comfortable 28 degrees thanks to our solar heating, and spent about 2 hours playing Marco Polo and other games which will have had the dual effect of tiring them out and cleaning them off!!  We will be going back to Freemans and I will try and book the exclusive 6-site Frazer Beach camping site next time.

We stayed at Frazer Beach once and had the whole place to ourselves. You get places through a lottery system. It was brilliant, two blokes from the council even came every morning and cleaned the bbqs. Shall we go together? xx
