Onesies

We're on school holidays at the moment and we started with a trip to purchase the kids some onesies which are the latest craze to hit here.  After much deliberation Tess chose an owl and Tom chose a monkey.  The shop was conveniently close to Ikea so the kids had a play in Smaland whilst I looked for renovation ideas and then we had meatballs for lunch - a family favourite!
Is that a monkey playing the ukelele??!!
On Tuesday Eleanor and Ewan spent the day with us so we decided to go to the zoo.  It's been a long time since we were last there and after 9 years of being a "friend" which allows us free access whenever we like I am considering whether its worth joining again this year which makes me a little sad - a sign of the kids growing up.  We had a great time until I lost the kids.  All four of them.  I stayed calm for the first 5 minutes retracing our steps and hanging around the place I lost them (it was like a cross ways where there were 3 different paths) but then I began to panic a little and considered phoning Eleanor's and Ewan's mother.  I was on my way to find a zookeeper when I saw them in the distance.  It was a huge relief but they were all deep in disgrace.  Although after about 15 mins they'd all looked suitably contrite and apologised sufficiently for me to forgive them!
See the seals head popping up? That's when he heard the screams
On Wednesday the Rivers and the Watts joined us for our favourite bush walk down to Davis Marina and back up to Tania Park.  We had morning tea at Reef Beach where the kids played on the rocks and in the sand.  We were just about to leave when Tom shouted out "there's a seal!" and sure enough there was a seal frolicking just off the beach.  The kids all started screaming and trying to get as close to it as possible so it very wisely swam away!

Tess had a sleepover at Ruby's house on Wednesday night.  That might not sound like a big deal but, believe me, for Tess it is.  We've been trying to do sleepovers for several years now.  She's managed a few here and there but invariably I get a call late in the evening with her upset and needing to be picked up.  Tess thinks that the difference this time was having her onesie with her which made her feel safe and secure!

Jules took Friday off work and we headed to the Opera House to watch Horrible Histories which is a stage play for kids over from the UK.  It's aim is to teach kids about history in a fun and engaging way and the show we saw concentrated on the Egyptians.  It was a lot of fun with lots of audience participation and the very clever use of 3D glasses in the second half.  It lasted for 2 hours with a break in the middle but the kids loved it (and so did I)!!

Jack Johnson eat your heart out!
The weather has been amazing so we've spent all weekend down at the beach.  Tom and Tess have done a lot of surfing and Jules decided he wanted a go too so he hired himself a surfboard on Sunday afternoon.  After about an hour and a half Tom came out of the water with a face like thunder.  When I asked him what was wrong he said "Dad is such a kook!  He's so annoying!".  A kook is a new word to me and it describes a surfer who is a danger to themselves and to others.  I was watching the whole time and didn't see Jules anywhere near Tom but Tom always likes something to complain about when he's surfing with Jules!!
