Tom told me he needed new shoe laces but as I was beginning to pull the old ones out I realised he needed a lot more than laces. Those shoes were only about 2 months old so we can be sure he's doing a lot of running at school.

I've mentioned before that at the beginning of the netball season I was asked to be coach of Tess' team despite never having played before. I went on a course and have subsequently spent a lot of time looking at various websites and books trying to get my skills up to a level where I can do the girls justice. My smartest move was organising training with the team graded below us whose coach still plays to a high level. We agreed that we'd take it in turns each week to write the training programme and Lauren was also able to point me in the right direction with the more technical aspects of the game. It ended up working really well and the two teams loved training together because it guaranteed them a mini-game at the end of each training session. We had a bad start to the season and my team were languishing at the bottom of the table but suddenly in week 4 they pulled it together and have won or drew every match since then which means we have ended the season in 2nd position and are through to the finals. They are a gorgeous group of girls and to my surprise I have ended up enjoying my coaching role - Jules and my father would say that's because I get to walk around with a clipboard barking orders at people!
Tess at the Netball World Cup
The Netball World Cup is being held in Sydney this year so on Sunday Tess and I headed out to Homebush to watch the Australia v New Zealand and the England v Samoa games.
If someone had told me 3 years ago that I would be a netball coach and excited to be watching live netball games I would have thought they were batty!
