Singing boy

Pittwater House held a junior school music evening on Monday.  Tom played in a guitar ensemble, a solo guitar piece and in a saxophone trio.  He also wanted to play "Riptide" on the ukulele but his guitar teacher is quite old-fashioned and doesn't really approve of that type of music.  It was a long concert and a little bit painful as a lot of the kids were very much beginners.  There was quite a big sigh of relief when the music master announced the last act which was a very talented violinist playing complicated classical pieces.  As we were clapping and the master was about to wrap up, Tom's guitar teacher whispered to the master that Tom would like to play one more piece.  In the spirit of letting all the kids have a go, the music master announced the "encore" which was greeted with a certain amount of eye-rolling and Jules and I sinking down into our chairs.  Tom came out with his cheerful little face, sat on a chair and played a short but incredibly sweet version of Riptide.  The audience went wild!!  That may be an exaggeration but he did receive a very loud amount of applause.  The next day when he came home from school he told me that the choir teacher had sought him out and wants him to join the school choir.  He also said that the girls in his year had been talking to their teacher who has asked him to play for her next time he has his ukulele at school.  Tom is very much enjoying this new found fame..........!

The weekend passed in the usual blur of sport and surfing ending with Tess' water polo game which started at 8pm on Sunday evening.  That is really not a sociable time for kids sport!

Rain clouds approaching at Manly

We had a fair amount of rain last week and I was very sad that my social tennis on Friday had to be called off but we went for a coffee to commiserate.  I play tennis with these girls at least twice a week most weeks - we do squads on Monday and a social four on Wednesday or Friday.  They are lovely ladies and I feel very fortunate to have found them.
