We did lots of hiking, talking, playing cards and teaching the kids to play pool, simply enjoying being together the 4 of us without the lure of friends and electronic devices. We did the Sounds of Silence which is dinner out under the stars listening to the silence of the desert. Sadly it was cloudy that night and there was a full moon the other nights so in fact we didn't really get to see the stars in all their glory but luckily we get plenty of star gazing at the farm. We also went to an amazing outdoor art installation called Fields of Light which is by a british artist, Brian Munro, and is made up of 5,000 solar powered LED lights that cover about 7 football fields and change colour slowly. Given how much my family appreciate art I was given about 20 minutes to wonder at it's beauty - not sure that involved walking round more than 2 of those football fields ;)
The highlight of the trip was definitely Kings Canyon which is a 3 hour drive from Uluru so we stayed over night at the one resort there. Our room had a spa bath with a huge window from which the kids were able to watch the wildlife at night. They got seriously freaked out when a dingo ran past the window! In the morning we left before sunrise to get to the top of the Canyon as the sun came up - stunning.
