Tess on holidays

Tess and I have had a lovely week with Tom still at school but Tess on holidays.  We celebrated with breakfast at Jellyfish in Manly on Monday morning.  We've hung out a lot together, getting our hair cut, baking, walking the dog, clothes shopping.  It's been lovely to have a bit of time with her.

For a while now we've been aware of a number of large privets in our neighbours backyard.  They are considered a noxious weed and bring on asthma which we have noticed with Tom whenever they are in blossom.  I had a difficult conversation with the neighbour about removing them - she's lived in the same house for 62 years and obviously isn't fond of change.  However, once I explained that I was willing to pay to get rid of them she quickly agreed - if a council ranger noticed the trees they could force her to remove them herself so it's a win win situation for her.  I'm really pleased with the difference to the amount of light that we are now getting in the bottom of the garden and hopefully Tom will avoid getting such bad asthma during spring.

It's been very cold here this week with temperatures struggling to reach 18C.  Luckily, due to our house being north facing, if the sun is out it's beautifully warm inside and I've spent a few happy hours sitting at the dining room table with my back being warmed by the sun.  Ted is obviously a bit of a sun bunny too and is constantly following the sun around the house.

Tom had his monthly surf competition on Saturday and he was very pleased to learn that the dude who always beats him was away on holiday.  As a result Tom came first in his group which he was very pleased with.

Winter board training started on Sunday and it was a beautiful morning.  The water is still 20C so the nippers were better off in than out.  During training they did quite a bit of running along the beach and it was interesting to see that Tom's limp has almost gone.  I believe it's due to all the swim training he's now doing and it should make a big difference to him going forward.  The waves were spectacular - the occasional 5ft set and Tom and his mates had a ball on their boards staying for an additional 1.5 hours once training had finished.

Here's proof that we're doing really well with our "no dogs on the sofa" rule.
