Ed Sheeran, a girls weekend in Dubai and an Ironman

It's been a busy week for everyone in the house.  Tess was lucky enough to get tickets to see Ed Sheeran in concert.  She went with her friends Bella and Liv and they had a wonderful time in the mosh pit about 20 metres away from the stage - fantastic!

I spent a long weekend in Dubai with Dominique, Merel and Rossana - dear university friends of mine.  We came from around the world, Mauritius, Amsterdam and Australia, for our first catch up in 13 years.  Roxy hosted us and put together a fantastic weekend which allowed us lots of time to relax and catch up whilst getting a good feel for Dubai from a local's perspective - always the best way to visit a city.

We went to a Day Spa on our first day and relaxed by the pool, had lunch and enjoyed a 90 minute massage.

We enjoyed a long walk around Dubai Marina before heading out for a champagne brunch.  Talk about excesses - I stuffed myself with lobster, crab, prawns and foie gras - yum!!  We then walked to a nearby beach bar and attempted to dance off some of the calories.

For our final day Merel and Roxy went on a huge zip line across Dubai Marina - Dom and I sat in a cafe and took photos!  We then went to Dubai Mall which is the largest mall in the world and has an aquarium, waterfall, and dancing fountains.

The see saw was actually an art installation but that didn't stop us having a go.  It was an amazing weekend and we have vowed not to leave it another 13 years before we get together again.  It's amazing how intervening years can slip away so easily when you're with truly good friends.

Jules and Tom assessing the conditions

Tom had his last Ironman of the season up at North Avoca beach.  The conditions were dreadful and people have said that if it was a normal nippers carnival it would have been cancelled but because all these kids are very competent they deemed it safe enough to go ahead.  Apparently Tom was in 2nd/3rd position for most of the course but had a slight disaster in the last swim and finally came in 6th which is still very good!
