Tom's 13th birthday at the farm

It's getting to that crazy time of year where you just need time to stand still so that you can write a few lists and sort your head out for what's to come.  Fortunately the farm is perfect for getting away from it all so we allowed Tess and Tom to wag school on Friday and headed up Thursday evening.  The Mennies joined us on Friday afternoon/evening and we had an excellent weekend of bike riding, walking, fire building, cow feeding, reading and list writing!

This was Ted's first trip to the farm and it would be fair to say that he hated it.  He has never been a brave dog but he was seriously terrified particularly of the motor bikes.  For the first day he refused to get out of the boot of the Land Rover - we think he was hoping he'd be taken home!  Once we lifted him out and closed the boot he hid by the back door which was as far away from the shed and bikes as he could get.  On one occasion Fletcher walked into the farm house wearing a bike helmet which made Ted actually pee himself with fright!  He was also fairly dreadful at night so he ended up sleeping in the same room as me and Tess but he was up at 4.30am one morning and 5.30am another. I did consider the irony of all 4 adults being awake at 6.15 on Sunday morning whilst the 5 children slept - in the old days the kids were up around 5.30am whilst the adults tried to ignore them - welcome to the teenage years!

 Unimpressed!

Ted's mate, Edgar.  Ted was braver with Edgar there.

The bikes were a huge hit and I'm not sure that Jules got to ride his much as Hunter commandeered it pretty quickly whilst Tess favoured the quad bike.  Fortunately Fletcher still fits on the little bike that we bought them so many years ago and Darcy was happy to ride pillion with Tess so all the kids needs were catered for!
A very happy boy!

It was Tom's 13th birthday on Sunday which we celebrated with cake for morning tea in-between some final bike riding before heading back to Sydney.
