Tess' Year 10 Formal

It was Tess' first formal event on Friday which we have been planning for months.  Tess doesn't like shopping so we were very lucky to find her beautiful dress on line.  Shoes were more difficult because she has size 42 feet which are quite wide.  After shopping for 2 hours she had still not tried on a single pair!  Luckily a very helpful shop assistant pointed us in the right direction and we finally found a beautiful pair which she'll have for a very long time.

Leading up to the big day all the girls went "ano" (short for anorexic) although Tess likes her food so I just made everything into finger food size and we pretended she was eating less!  There was also significant amounts of fake tan application with varying success.  I was very proud of Tess for managing to control herself so that she didn't end up like a carrot.

On the day itself I took Tess to the hairdresser to get those beautiful curls put in and between us we managed her make up.  Luckily she's a big believer in less is more.

Tess took Josh as her date who is a delightful young man.  He is allegedly her best friend and the two of them looked very comfortable and relaxed together.  At the pre-event party it was interesting to see the teenagers naturally fall into an Australian bbq situation (boys on one side, girls on the other) but Tess and Josh quickly turned that around which was great.  The main event was held at Orso at The Spit which is a beautiful location and then there was the after-party - exhausted yet - we were!!  All in all Tess had a fabulous time: the whole evening seemed to be devoid of any major dramas and it exceeded her expectations even given the huge build up.  I know we're biased but we think she looked incredibly beautiful.

During the week Tom re-took his SRC exam and passed!  The beaches will be safer this summer with him on patrol ;)

Tom was away for the weekend competing in the Canberra Cup with his water polo team.  They were entered into the U17 competition (Tom is only 13!) and they came 5th which is fantastic.
