Weekend of work and wine

Renovating is stressful!!  The kitchen was pulled out on Wednesday and we've been camping downstairs ever since.  We actually quite like it as it's cozy and it's amazing how having only 2 cups, plates, bowls is completely manageable.  We've had a few dramas with our new floor.  The floor guys have been laying thick chipboard all over the top floor to nail the floorboards onto.  Once the kitchen was pulled out we realised that not only were we losing head room but we would also have all sorts of steps around the house which I can guarantee the kids would stub their toes on.  I had an uncomfortable conversation with the flooring guy saying I want him to reconsider how he's doing the floor so we'll see how we go but it meant a few sleepless nights for me.

We've had another weekend of deck building but in much warmer weather this time.  Jules has done an amazing job and we're close to being able to lay the boards - hooray!!

Our good friends Craig and Lisa Mennie moved in next door on Thursday and almost moved out again on Friday after a full day of their son Hunter asking where Tess and Tom were and checking whether our car was in the driveway every 15 minutes!  By 8 am on Saturday we had all the Mennies round at our house inspecting the building works and the children have been in and out of each other's houses ever since.

On Saturday morning I went to buy a new sink for the kitchen.  It's quite a long story but I had originally chosen a sink which I was incredibly excited about when the kitchen designer told me it wouldn't fit.  Well, I know this might sound extreme but I almost cancelled the whole kitchen then and there - I spend a lot of time at the sink so it's important to me!  I decided at that stage to keep my existing sink which is nothing to write home about but is in perfectly good condition.  As things are progressing I decided that I really did need a new sink so went back to look for one and managed to find almost exactly the same as the previous one I wanted but it fits - I had tears in my eyes and have been showing everyone who cares to ask (and a few who don't) the brochure!

Due to our makeshift kitchen and general excitement at having the Mennies next door we had dinner together on Saturday night and somehow managed to get through 4 bottles of wine.

Sunday saw Craig and I taking the kids for a bike ride along Manly beach - Tess did very well on her new bike and has finally understood how to brake by back-pedalling.  The kids and Floyd the dog were constantly in and out of the 2 houses during the day - they have found a secret passage between the houses which means they don't need to go up to the street which is great.  We were never too sure where any of the children (or Floyd) were and Lisa decided we need some type of signing in and out board although we're not sure we can count on them to use it.
