My cousin Alex arrived in Sydney on Saturday morning. He'd like to try working in Sydney for a while and figured he'd stand a better chance of finding a job if he was here in person. He flew in on the A380 which he said was very spacious even in economy. The weather has put on a fine performance for him with perfect autumn sun and temperatures in the high twenties all weekend. Jules and Tom took him down to Manly beach on Saturday morning whilst I took Tess and Olivia to a fairy party, we had Dim Sum for lunch at a great restaurant at Manly Wharf overlooking the harbour and in the afternoon Jules took Alex out on the speedboat to do a tour of Sydney harbour stopping to show him St Jude which is the boat that Jules will be doing the Sydney-Hobart on this Christmas. Our good friends John and Leanne came round for dinner in the evening and found that John knows a friend of Alex's from the UK - it really was a case of 6 degrees of separation.
We're obviously not the only ones trying to convince Alex of the wonderful Sydney lifestyle as a good friend of his who is currently in the UK arranged for Alex to pick up his surfboard and bike (complete with surfboard carrier) on Sunday and Alex spent Sunday morning surfing on Manly beach - fortunately he didn't get nibbled on by a shark!
Jules had a sailing race on Sunday afternoon and they came 2nd so we went down to the yacht club for the prize giving. Afterwards we went back to Ken and Emma's house to celebrate Emma's 40th birthday with curry, trifle and a delicious birthday cake. Alex has been doing incredibly well and is finding that not having time for jet lag is a good cure for it!
I couldn't resist the photo of Tom with his monkey climbing the tree - he's wearing his favourite superman pyjamas (a hand-me-down from James) which comes with a special detachable cape so that he can run around the house pretending to be superman when he's not pretending to be a baby chimp!
