Sleepover City

I'm no longer in the running for "mother of the year" award on 2 counts this week.  The first was on Tuesday early afternoon when I dragged Tess to a dress shop to look for an outfit for the Big 40th this weekend but got so carried away trying on clothes we missed Tess' swim class.  The second incident was that same evening when Tess got sand in her eye but instead of taking her to hospital to get it sorted we drugged her, sent her to school the next day and only managed to take her to the doctor after school to find that there was indeed a grain of sand in her eye - poor girl!

It's been a weekend of sleepovers with Marianne (Andrew's daughter) staying on Friday night because Andrew did the twilight with Jules and then stayed for dinner and drinks and James and Olivia staying for a sleepover on Saturday night whilst we partied the night away at Ken and Emma's house!  The 40th was a huge success with a beautiful balmy evening, lots of cocktails and the McKennies (McPhersons and Mennies) taking over the dance floor.  We crawled into bed at 1.30 (I'd forgotten how much your feet hurt after a night of dancing) only to be woken by the 4 children at 6.10.  To give them their due they were fantastic as I went straight back to bed and although I had to sort out another fracas at around 7.30 they let me stay in bed until 8.30 which was a huge luxury.  To reward them for being so good I took them all to the zoo (Jules had a sailing race and Ken & Emma were sleeping off their hangovers), followed by chicken and chips for lunch and a swim in the pool - a very successful day by all accounts!
