Camping at Gerroa

With the mercury pushing 38 degrees on Friday the only sensible place for Tom and me was at the beach. We spent the morning down at Clontarf - me in the shade and Tom on his boogie board - I love this weather! A quick (and sweaty!) pack up of the car and we set off to pick Tess up from school and Jules from work on our way down south for a camping trip at the beach with the Duthies. Picking up fish and chips on the way we arrived just in time to put our tent up in day light - just as well because we'd all forgotten to bring a camplight and out of 3 torches only one of ours worked faintly!!

Tom was awake at the crack of dawn so we started our morning with an early morning walk along the beach and into Gerroa where we found a playground for the children and a coffee shop for takeaway coffee. We headed back to the campsite and Kate cooked up a huge panful of bacon and eggs on our little portable stove. For lunch we headed into Berry where we found a lovely "pub" with a covered courtyard - Tom kept stealing Jules' gingerbeer and the first photo is Tom's face after his first sip!

We spent the afternoon playing in the river which is tidal and has quite a strong current as the tide is going out so the kids had fun zooming down it on the boogie boards. The photo of Tess is just before she got caught in a really strong bit of the current and whisked into a very choppy part from which Rob had to rescue her screaming - we went back to the campsite soon after!

One of the joys of going away with the Duthies is their equal love of playing games so whilst the grown ups got stuck into the first bottle of champagne the kids played Twister. For dinner we once again walked across the beach into Gerroa to the one cafe which serves beautiful food. 2 bottles of wine later we staggered back across the beach and Jules fell asleep putting the kids to bed - lucky him because Kate, Rob and I stayed up and finished off another bottle of champagne.

We decided to try out the camp kitchen for breakfast on Sunday morning which was right by the pool so the kids swam whilst we had breakfast - very civilised. The downside with camping on the weekend is that you just get into the rhythm of campsite life when it's time to leave. We got back to Sydney at lunchtime and spent the afternoon in the pool - it's sweltering but a southerly change is due this evening to provide some relief.

In other news I had another band practice session this week which went very well. I've decided I can probably wing it without too much practicing so I'm going to stick with it. We've got our line up of 7 songs and our next 2 big decisions are a name and our look - not an easy task when you consider I'm the second youngest member out of the 6 in the group?!
