Skate boarding

Tom has started noticing skateboards wherever we go. There's a skateboard ramp near his kindy and when we stop at the traffic lights he stares intently out of the window at the "big" boys wishing he was one of them. And then on Friday afternoon we went round to one of Tess' friends house and her brother who is Tom's age has a skateboard which he allowed Tom to play on. Tom was beside himself and I didn't see him for at least an hour after which he came up to me and said "Mum, we need to go now and buy me a skateboard". I personally feel that's a birthday present type purchase so I neatly passed the ball with a "You'll need to talk to Daddy" comment.

On Saturday we had a few chores to do so we decided to divide and conquer with Tess and I going to choose curtains and Tom and Jules going to get haircuts. We all met at the shopping mall afterwards for some morning tea. When Tess and I arrived at the cafe what do I see under Jules' arm but a skateboard!! It was all we could do to persuade Tom not to ride it in the mall and he spent the afternoon practicing in the driveway. Tess now wants one too!

The earthquake in Chile on Saturday night caused a Tsunami warning here on the Eastern coast of Australia. Jules went for a run down to Manly on Sunday morning and the life guards were urging everyone out of the water as there was due to be an extremely large swell for a couple of hours. Jules went sailing in the afternoon and reported that there was a noticeably large swell particularly where our boat is moored - the tide was sweeping in and then felt as if it was being suddenly sucked out.

Rae arrives back on Thursday - hooray!
