Mothers Day & dads and kids weekend away

The best Mothers' Day gift that Lenks could have is a quiet day without kids doing her thing without distraction. Well she got more than that this year - a whole long weekend without kids or husband. Lenks stayed at home while we packed the car and headed west over the Blue Mountains and off for another adventure at Craig's farm.

We met up with Craig, Hunter and Fletcher and with Ken, James and Olivia at Maccas at Lithgow, filled up with junk food, and then headed off in convoy avoiding kangaroos and foxes out on the country roads at night. The track into the farm from the road takes a good 10 minute drive through fields up and down hills and so it was with relief that we finally made it to the farm house. Strangely as we drove up there were lights on in the house hmmmmm there also appeared to be a car next to the house and yes people already in the farm house. Unfortunately there had been a mix up and it seemed we were not booked in until the following morning. Oh well off to the nearest town where we found a motel, got the kids to sleep and had a couple of quiet beers.

Next morning after a greasy breakfast, some shopping for the weekend (meat, more meat, lots of bread, more meat and some token carrots) we headed off to find the farm vacated, the sun out and another weekend at the farm ahead of us. Michael, Maggie and Ryan joined us later in the day on Friday and the 8 kids played and played. Up and down hay bales, up and down hills on bikes, up and down the cubby house, down to the paddocks to feed the cows - they didn't stop all weekend. Meanwhile we had a very relaxing time, did lots of bbqing, ate a lot of protein and drove our city 4wds up and down lots of rough tracks giving them a work out and taking a few layers of paint off (except for Ken who can be excused as he has a brand new Range Rover Sport which is highly capable but far too shiny to get dirty). The weekend was reasonably incident free and we all enjoyed the sunny but cold days, the peace and quiet, the amazing stars, sitting round the camp fire having a couple of beers and having a bit of a laugh - why can't life be this simple all the time?

When we arrived back in Sydney on Sunday afternoon it appeared that Lenka had coped OK without us. She seems to have done lots of cooking and has acquired at least one kitchen gadget (a rotational cheese grinder which is very useful for grating cheese in a rotational manner rather than an up and down manner). We're not complaining - we had a delicious dinner, the kids had a long hot bath and collapsed in bed - both asleep within 1 minute!
