An Unexpected Visitor

During the week we found out that our friend Stephen was spending Thursday to Sunday in Sydney on business so we cleared the decks to spend as much time with him as possible.  I had a school commitment on Friday night so Jules and Stephen hit Manly for the evening staggering home at 2am following pizza at Hugo's, pool at the BoatShed and dancing at Manly Wine Bar!

It was an early start on Saturday for netball and soccer - the kids games coincided so it was a case of divide and conquer which was a little unfortunate for Jules and his hangover!  Netball was brilliant as always - I'm constantly amazed by the weekly improvement in the girls' abilities.  We all got home at about 10.30, had a second breakfast and then the big boys decided they both needed a little nap to keep them going so I took the kids out to the park for 2 hours where we had a lovely time.  Back home and the kids decided they were shattered and needed some downtime so we were able to have a very relaxed lunch whilst they watched television.  Suitably fortified we decided to do a bush walk which was actually just an excuse to fill the gap until it was a reasonable time to open the next bottle of wine.

Stephen was on an early flight on Sunday morning so we were up bright and early to wish him farewell.  Tess and I then pottered around the kitchen and she made brownies all by herself for Robert and Claire who came round in the afternoon for tea and ended up staying for dinner.  The kids have recently taken to playing in my car and Tom came into the house whilst Jules and I were having lunch and started saying "I'm really sorry Mum", Tess then came racing inside and ran into her room crying which had us both really worried.  We went outside and found that the kids had left the lights on in my car overnight and the battery was completely flat.  We managed to borrow some jump leads but still couldn't get the car started so ended up calling roadside assistance.  Fortunately we were using the jump leads incorrectly and the car was started without too much trouble.  I kept imagining if it had been Monday morning at 8.45am and I found the battery completely flat - the kids really would have been crying and so would I!
