I love this photo - 3 boys on their way to school in the morning with their oversized school bags seemingly all marching in sync, excited about what the day holds for them!
For Tom's homework last week we needed to send in a photo of Tom as a baby and some key statistics from when he was born. I started searching the computer for photos and found the earliest ones of him are from when he was about 18 months old. Prior to that digital cameras were still quite rare and it was more usual to have a film camera and when you got your photos developed you asked for a CD with jpgs of the photos so that you could email a select few. So I started searching our photo albums and to my shame discovered that I don't have a single photo album from when Tom was a baby. His baby book is equally pitiful with a few scant details. Fortunately I did find a pile of printed out photos which haven't quite made it to a photo album so I have a new task to complete within the next couple of months. For the record Tom weighed 10lb 4oz (4.64kg) when he was born and measured 58 cm. Both Jules and I remember the midwives running up and down the corridor saying to all who passed "have a look at the big 'un in room 5 - he's huge"!
The Duthies came for another visit on Friday night and we celebrated Scarlett's birthday with a chocolate cake covered in Maltesers. It was a brilliant evening and I had a headache to prove it the next morning!
Tess had sailing on Saturday morning - the second Saturday in a row where it's poured with rain. This time the sailing instructors decided they needed to get the kids out onto the water regardless and Jules and I thanked our lucky stars that Tess had Sarah with her who is always enthusiastic and completely unfazed by anything. I promised the girls a chocolate lick and hot chocolate at Max Brenner afterwards to make up for the miserable weather.
The best $2.50 you'll ever spend - pure molten chocolate!
Last weekend we watched the movie Storm Surfers which is about a couple of guys who travel around the world surfing breaks that only appear during big storms. Tom was transfixed by the film and has talked non-stop about surfing ever since (one of the guys in the film is called Tom so I think he felt a connection). He is desperate to get in the water but because of our own storms and bad weather the beaches have been closed with very dangerous surf. On Sunday Tom begged me to take him down to the beach to make sure that he really couldn't surf. That boy just loves the sand and the beach and he reckons that one day he could be a professional surfer (just might need a few lessons and a bit of practice to help him along!).
