My baby brother turned 30 on Monday. It means there is now only a decade between us which automatically makes me much younger! He is a busy chap and therefore it wasn't until Sunday that we were able to celebrate. I made his favourite meal, lasagne, he's as much a Garfield as Tom, and because he's not much of a cake eater Tess had the excellent idea of putting candles in the lasagne and singing Happy Birthday which we did.
On Tuesday 21 May I gave in and allowed the kids to turn on the heater. I had been trying to hold out until June which would have been a record but the skies clouded over and it felt cold and miserable outside so I had to give in. I'm glad to say that the sun has since returned so we haven't needed it again but I felt it important to note this particular record for comparison purposes.
That's Tom, far left, sitting up on his board
Tom had his surfing lesson on Wednesday. It was a rainy day, showing 15 degrees on my car thermometer, but the sea was a balmy 22 degrees so the kids were loath to get out of the sea at the end of the lesson and their wetsuits felt so warm that I didn't want to help them out for fear of touching their warm skin with my freezing hands!
Inside the studio - those lights are hot!
Leanne and I headed off to the Sydney Writer's Festival on Friday. We started with a session on Writers who Blog and then hot footed it to the ABC studios for a live studio recording of the Book Club with Jennifer Byrne. The last studio recording I went to was of Top of the Pops at the age of 16!!Tess had a band camp on Sunday afternoon which meant I was on duty up at school. The camps are hard work for both the kids and the parent helpers but they're also a lot of fun and the kids learn so much. However, that first glass of wine when I got home tasted mighty good!
