Back to normal

The kids went back to school on Wednesday.  Although I might shout at them (occasionally) and they might drive me nuts (a little more frequently) I always feel bereft when they go back to school.  I love having them around, their happy chatter, their funny questions,  their energy, their company.  On the last day of the holidays we had Eleanor over for the day and the kids built an amazing cubby out of blankets in the back yard - I love it when they spend time being creative like this rather than pretending to be teenagers!

I will get sick of Tom and surfing soon but indulge me for the time being!  I've signed him up for surf lessons for the next 4 weeks.  His first lesson was on Wednesday and there was some pretty serious surf.  The instructor decided to teach them to use the rip to get out beyond the waves which sounded terrifying to me and I sat on the sand with my eyes trained on Tom and all my fingers and toes crossed that he'd be ok.  Of course he was and had a brilliant time.  When he came out he said to me "Mum, I went in the green room" which apparently means you've been inside the barrel of a wave.  Not entirely sure about that one but I decided to humour him.

Saturday saw the start of netball and rugby again after the school holiday break.  Tom's team did brilliantly and won their game as did Tess's netball team so everyone was happy.

I'm going to keep this post short as we were round at Robyn and Scott Burgess' for lunch which finished at 6 this evening and Jules was the designated driver.  Hence the best place for me is bed with a hot water bottle.
