Melbourne

We drove to Melbourne for the long weekend.  That's 849 kilometres each way.  Or 20 hours in a car.  On the way down I wanted to shoot myself after 3 hours driving as I was still stuck in Sydney traffic.  We were supposed to have dinner in Gundagai where we were staying the night but we didn't get there until 10pm.

However it was all worth it once we arrived at Julia and Michael's house.  The fires were lit, there were fresh scones and soon after the scones had been demolished there was wine.  It was a fairly full house with the Mennies there too but we're used to small spaces (ie up at the farm) and the layout of the Jamo's house lends itself very well to large groups.

The big boys went sailing in Michael's yacht on Saturday and for the first time the spinnaker was used (thanks to Jules) so they raced along.  Whilst they were sailing we took the children to a farmers market/children's farm.  We bought lots of lovely food for lunch and then discovered a dressage paddock which the children put to good use.

A sandy arena and some horse jumping equipment - it's all kids need

There was a delicious dinner out, plenty more good food and wine and a brief shopping trip for the girls.  Ryan and Maggie's school is across the road from their house so we spent lots of time there playing rugby, basketball, skateboarding.

It was a brilliant weekend with the 3 families together again.  Next time we might fly......
