Band camp 2014
I am writing this half delirious with exhaustion after 2 nights looking after 100 kids during the evening and 175 kids during the day at the school's annual band camp. Although I'm not officially involved with band this year Tess is still a little wobbly about sleepovers and given that I stayed over last year I was lucky (!) to be top of the list of volunteers for staying over this year. On the first night we had at least 3 cabins of 8 children still wide awake at 11.30pm despite numerous warnings/threats etc (even though the instructions we were sent said - as a volunteer you are not permitted to verbally or physically manage the behaviour of any child that appears to be not following the rules - physical I can understand but verbal - my glaring's just not that good!!!!) On the second night we had 9 unexpected departures with the last one being picked up by a very sleepy mother at 11.15pm. I'm usually in bed by 9.30pm with lights out at 10.30 so it was a bit of a shock to my system with 2 nights in a row awake until gone midnight. I actually can't complain though because I love being involved, I know a large number of the children well and I get a huge kick out of seeing them all learning and enjoying music.
Jules had a relatively quiet weekend with Tom at band camp during the day on both days but he used his time wisely to work on his surfing without Tom criticising him and he also spent a number of very hot hours in the garden attempting to tame the bamboo.
