Within a day of moving downstairs our upstairs looked like this:
We're loving the downstairs and Tess is getting worried that Jules and I might never move back upstairs! It's a great space and being small is easy to keep warm which has been quite important over the past couple of weeks. The downside is that I am having to cook out of the laundry which in itself is no difficulty but there is currently no sink and that's just a bit boring because it's amazing how many times in one day you need to rinse, wash, empty something in a sink. Luckily the builders have left me access to the oven upstairs so I am still able to bake much to everyone's relief!
Over the weekend Tom went surfing with a whole heap of his friends and they all ended up back at our house watching Storm Surfers on our new fancy Ultra High Definition TV. It was the first test of how the space will work once it's just the kids down here and it passed with flying colours although we obviously need a bigger sofa and I will need to have better stocked kitchen cupboards. They ate through 3 large packets of crisps, 2 bags of popcorn and a packet of biscuits.
It's getting close to the end of term and everyone is getting a bit tired. I was furious with Tess the other day because she was so busy reading her book that she turned up at her clarinet lesson without her clarinet which meant I had to run around our house (tiny so not that hard) and the school (quite a bit bigger and in the dark so not easy) looking for it. Once I had found it and delivered it to her in her lesson I came back home and confiscated all her books. Later that afternoon I looked at her door and found the following note:
Gosh how it made me laugh but I was very impressed with the handwriting and spelling. Rest assured that she was soon out of her room and tucking into dinner. And as a contrast here is a photo of her receiving an award at the end of term school assembly. I was waving at her furiously and I think she was trying not to smile being a big serious school leader in a smart blazer!
