Surfing and running

Last week Tom was chosen by his school to participate in the U16s Sydney Schools North Regional Surfing Titles.  He didn't actually believe me when I told him he was picked and he made me send an email to the head of sport to confirm.  It was a grey and blustery day and the waves were not kind - 6 to 8 ft sets and very messy.  He came 2nd in his heat in the first round which took him through to the second round where he got knocked out by the guy who came 2nd overall last year and another guy he knows quite well whose family own a surf shop on the northern beaches.  He was really pleased with how he had done particularly given how young he was compared to a lot of the competitors.

That's Tom in the middle of the photo

Tess has her grade 6 piano exam coming up and her piano teacher held a concert for all the exam takers.  It's always one of my favourite afternoons and Tess played well although she obviously thought she had done terribly......

Manly hosted a food and wine festival called Taste of Manly so Jules and I left the kids at home and walked down with Ted.  It was only once we were there that we questioned the wisdom of bringing a labrador to an event centred around food!

On Sunday morning Tess competed in the Balmoral Burn - a 480m run up a very steep hill.  The poor girl has been fighting a very bad cold and cough for the past week so she wasn't on her best form but there was no way she was going to miss it having been the poster girl this year.

My friend Kate was in town for a flying visit and we managed to fit in a cheeky lunch at Hugo's with Trudie.

Tom and Jules enjoyed breakfast, cooked by Tom, in the glorious sunshine at home.

I sent this to Tess during the week as it pretty much sums her up when she gets home from school.
